If you haven't found out by now I'm a huge Gym Class Heroes fan, so I decided to bring you the review for their new album "The Quilt!" When they first started leaking the new songs off the CD, songs like Cookie Jar, and Peace Signs/Index Down, I thought they were amazing songs and loved them. At the same time I was worried that the whole CD was going to sound like that and me being as big a fan as i am I would hate to see them sell out to mainstream and go down that easily it would've really upset me. I started hearing more off the album and still wasn't hearing the old Gym Class I fell in love with and was afraid of really being disappointed. I then took a minute and really evaluated this album, because I know Gym Class was not going to give in to something so simple. One thing I've learned about them from listening to them all these years was they're never simple, they might seem simple, but they're always more complex than most people think. I took a step back and just waited for the Album to drop so I could listen to the whole thing before I pass judgment.

When the whole Album came out I went out and bought it, and popped it into my car stereo and I was actually blown away! It wasn't the same old Gym Class! It was something else. I realized with this album they might lose a huge amount of their so called "true fans." They would look at this album as sold out and not like this CD. It actually rang a bell in my mind because I've seen this happen somewhere before to another group where a lot of their so called "fans" said they're new CD was wack! Linkin Parks "Minutes to Midnight" album made a lot of Linkin Park fans pissed off with that record. I didn't like it either because it wasn't a typical Linkin Park but after hearing it for awhile I finally realized that Linkin Park was just showing how much they've grown. They were also saying that they're not one certain type of sound they can do whatever they want, and I actually Love Minutes to Midnight now it's one of my favorite Albums. Well the same way Linkin Park showed they'd matured in "Minutes to Midnight" that's exactly what Gym Class did with "The Quilt." They actually did a lot with this one and it's amazing how much they've accomplished. They truly have grown and have shown it in this album.

They did so much with this album I haven't even understood it fully since it just came out, but there's so much to this album and I'm just going to explain a few things that are hidden under "The Quilt. A quilt is made up of a bunch of different patches, each patch with different colors and different stories to them, which are then sown together to make one big quilt. That's what Gym Class did in this album they took a bunch of different sounding songs and just put them together into one album. This gives the whole album a unique sound as a whole. Each song is different from the next, and it leaves them room to do what they want. There Old albums were amazing but if they kept doing that they would be set into one category, so by doing this they broke that and said fuck you we don't have a specific sound we just do what we want. By making this album not only did they show they can do what they want and not confine themselves to a specific sound, they showed they can do it amazingly well. They have actually made an album that will appeal to a wider audience.

Each song on this album has a different sound which can appeal to different people depending on what's your type of music. If you like new school hip-hop, reggae, old school hip-hop, punk, alternative, whatever they've provided it for you. They still have some old Gym Class type songs and all there songs have at least a smidgen of the Ole' Gym Class touch. Travis doesn't rap and sing as much on this one as his previous ones, but when he does he's bring his lines tight, and power punches his lyrics hard to make up for it.That the one shit I love off this Album is that Travis actually stepped back a little bit and let his other band mates take some of the spotlight. (which also got people mad, fuck that!) i love Travis and his style and I do wish he was in it more, but he's not greedy and showing his band as a whole, as a group, instead of it being Travis Mccoy and friends. The bass guitarist Disashi's singing is amazing! One of my favorite songs off the album is actually mostly him singing which is a song called "Live a Little." Besides showing they're new side of their bands abilities, they've showcased they're new friends. Busta Rhymes, Estelle, Cool & Dre, Daryl Hall, and Patrick Stump all have a part in this album. Gym Class has never really had guest appearances which is also something new to them featuring their new friends in their album. There's also the hidden messages in the songs throughout the cd which make the album double layered and clever. Like I bet you didn't know there new single "Cookie Jar" is actually about music! They have other songs like "Coming Clean" which refer to Travis admitting he cheated on his girl with music. Every song has it's little meanings that you need to take time to comprehend. Anyways this Album is an amazing album and still has that Gym Class style to it I've finally realized and I don't know what the fuck all the other people are talking about! I've listened to it at least 4 times a day since it came out Tuesday. I have to give this one a 5 out of 5 because once you dissect it and give it your ear you realize it's a masterpiece and nothing short of it, this could actually be Gym Classes best album yet! Just at first listen you don't get to hear the full potential but it's actually nothing different than what they've just done before except with some enhancements.
"One hit wonder my ass! What are you talkin' bout? Let 'em keep blogging trash I'ma take the garbage out!"-Travis Mccoy
